Nanjing Genocide: Resolution

It Horrible that there was another similar genocide like the Holocaust occurring at the same time for the same reasons. The reason that one race or certain types of people are better than the other. It is also bad that it is very much forgotten and not really known about. While Japan was executing their “rape” of Nanjing it was in the news and there wasn’t much done about it. “News of the massacre continuously reached the global public while events unfolded” (Chang). It is evident that the massacre was known about but nothing was done. In the United States, and in many other parts of the world, people see gruesome pictures of the gas chambers at Auschwitz and the persecution at Jews. But while learning about World War 2 and the causes the rape of Nanjing is often overlooked. In fact, “Most Americans, children and adults alike and even highly educated adults, have never been told what happened in Nanking sixty years ago”(Chang). To prevent this from happening again it just needs to be talked about more in school and other genocides should too in order to show that the Holocaust wasn’t the only genocide in history. There have been measures taken already to spread awareness of this genocide and to show the memory of it. For example, the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall was built in 1985 to remember and tribute all the victims who died. Also in 2005, John Rabe's former residence in Nanjing was renovated and now is the "John Rabe and International Safety Zone Memorial Hall". It is great that there have been measures taken already to spread awareness of this genocide and also that this particular one won’t happen again.
